Trending Colors for 2022
The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have made the last two years traumatic and chaotic for many people around the world. Shelly Rosenberg, the main interior designer and owner of Shelly Rosenberg Studio and Acorn & Oak says that “With everything around us in turmoil, we will instinctively begin to turn inward seeking comfort.” According to many industry experts, the 2022 design landscape is filled with colors that make us feel peaceful, healthy, and centered. Serene blues, delicate greens, and grounded earth tones are popular color choices for 2022.
The Architectural Digest lists nine colors (all eerily similar shades) picked by leading companies for 2022. These colors mostly include shades of grey, blue, and green.

Neutral Colors for Home Office
Neutral colors are colors that appear to lack color. In other words, they are very light and silent colors that don’t stand out. White, cream, grey, taupe, beige, and black are a few neutral shades we all know and use. Neutral colors are an all-time favorite for office spaces and are, in fact, the most logical shades for your home office. This is because most of us people feel comfortable in a space with carefully balanced colors that make few demands on the eye. Neutral shades offer us many possibilities to make a room relaxing and airy. They can also convey a sense of minimalism and naturalism.
White is Not a Boring Choice for Home Office!
White is my all-time favorite color for any room. I know, some might find it a very boring color choice. But white has the unique ability to make a room appear large. And you can use many splashes of colors with white. It won’t clash with other colors and is the ideal choice if you want to use a lot of colorful wall hangers or furniture in your home office. Overall, white can make a room look lively and fresh.
What about a Unique Black Home Office?
Most of us associate black with gloom and doom. But did you know that it’s also the color of wisdom? When used right, black can make a room elegant and timeless. Black walls are also less likely to show wear and tear.
Note: according to interior designers, black should be used sparingly with complementary colors. Using black in large quantities can make a room pretty oppressive.
Grey Can Make You Feel Safe and Secure!
Grey is usually a ‘serious’ color and a popular choice for offices. But there are various shades of grey, each evoking different emotions. Generally, grey instills a sense of security and safety from the outside world, giving a space a sense of coziness. This is why it’s also one of the trending colors of 2022. Grey walls make you feel balanced. They easily match with other office furniture and accessories and create a non-distracting background.
Other neutral colors, including beige, cream, and taupe, are not only calming but also coordinate with your office furniture and make a great background for your pictures, shelving, and other wall hangings.
Greens and Blues for Your Home Office
Blues Can Stop You from Feeling Blue
Blue is a color with the capacity to affect the human mind profoundly. It’s a very soothing color as it conveys a sense of serenity and peace. As my favorite color, I find it cool and reserved. For me, blue works best when matched with lighter hues like white. Sometimes, too much blue can be distracting.
Light shades of blue like sky blue, teal, and turquoise represent tranquility. They are very pleasing to the eye and help with concentrating and resolving conflicts. Darker blues, on the other hand, create a sense of stability and confidence.
Green for Long Work Hours
Green is the color of nature and symbolizes good luck and hope. It’s a friendly color that mixes well with many shades. This is why it’s a good option for home offices. Natural green is calming and is great for offices where people work for long hours. This color is not tiring to the eye. Darker green shades create balance and boldness and are ideal for spaces that require focus and concentration.
Bright Colors for Home Office
Most people feel that bright colors are not a good match for home offices as they are too loud, dramatic, and distracting. But a home office with dark shades can also make you feel energetic.
Red is the color of danger and passion. At the same time, it can also make you feel warm, dynamic, and stimulating. But too much red can be over-stimulating.
Orange is a great choice if you love red but want to avoid its aggressive impact. It makes a room feel friendly, fun, and energetic.
Purple is a color that goes well with many other shades. It’s the color of royalty and gives a room a dramatic and dignified look. You can pair it with jewel tones or neutral shades like beige.
Whichever color you choose for your home office, make sure it’s a color you love and a color that matches the furniture you already have. Also, make sure that this color matches the mood you want to create in your home office.
